Turn Your Head for ONE Second...

and she will turn 12 on you!

Abbi ordered Chicken Puffs for dinner and homemade (from scratch) German Chocolate Cake.
Let me start off by saying - I don't think I have ever made a cake from scratch. (now I know why - - Disaster! And seriously, why bother when box cakes are so cheap and taste just fine?)
I also might add my mom use to make German Chocolate Cakes for my birthdays. And they looked almost exactly like this one...
Mom's cakes earned the name
 "The Landslide Cake"
This one had the landslide look but it was crumbly (kinda dry) and not moist like my mom's.
Hers definitely tasted better than mine!
Anyways, Like Mother Like Daughter.
(Thanks mom for passing on the "landslide cake" look)

Happy Birthday Abbi!!
You are an incredibly sweet and loving daughter. So much fun!
I love you.

Happy Birthday Miss Abbi!!!!

The cake looked yummy...and I think the cakes that turn out to look perfect seem to taste yucky! So, I bet that was the best cake ever, slide and all ;)

LOVE your posts and your sweet family, Ashley! And, seriously impressed you made a German Chocolate cake from scratch!

It's the altitude, baby! Even I, as a diehard scratch baker, continue to fail miserably with cakes at altitude. But those box cakes? Work every time.

Happy birthday, Abbi! Love the new halter!

oh, I don't know, I have to commend your efforts....There is nothing better than a homemade German Chocolate cake.....It is hard however to get things right at our altitude. You just need to find the right recipe for high altitudes. If you only put the coconut pecan frosting on top and make butter cream chocolate frosting for the middle then it won't slip. What I do is bake it in a 13 X 9 glass dish then just pour the frosting on top. Sorry, not that you even really wanted to know..boxed is just fine! :o)
You are one awesome mom!!!
