Jeremiah Johnson

So... if you are a "wanna-be Jeremiah Johnson", you would have a porcupine as a pet, right?... Check!
Caleb found this baby porcupine and has named him "Scout".

Shhhh... baby porcupine sleeping.
(he really is asleep)

He napped most of the day in the trees around our house.

Caleb handles and plays with him often so that he will get use to being handled and not be afraid of us.
Hopefully, this will help to avoid receiving his (very) unwanted quills.

Quite the pair!

Jeremiah Caleb calls him Scout because he likes to be high in the trees ---- a great place to "scout".

We all enjoyed watching him sleep in the tree. So cute!
How does he not fall out?

Fun, furry-quilled, friend!

Before and After

Hudson before...

Hudson - in the hands of Caleb
(yikes!)

Oh, the drama!

I showed Caleb how to use the clippers and left the room. I only know what took place in our kitchen that evening because Maggie took pictures. Not sure what "look" Caleb was going for (redneck?) but there was lots of laughing and hollering going on in there.
When Caleb was done "doing his thing", I came in and tidied things up.

Got Framers?

I DO!!

What kind of framer would you like?

I have a retired framer that leads the crew - Mr. O

I have a framer's helper - my Dad

I have a handsome framer - my Hubby

I have a framer-in-training - Caleb

And another framer-in-training - Hudson

I have a framer's errand girl - Abbi

And I have 4 framer's cheerleaders - Maggie, Elizabeth, Dani and Tess

After a big day of "framing" - they CRASH!

How many "framers" do you see?

sidenote: the white glare in most of the pictures is b/c of the snow.  I might also mention - it is freezing with the wind, snow and no walls! They are troopers!! AND making good progress.

The Spoiled Ones!

We have six cats!
(Probably too many)
Nonetheless, we have six cats.
3 of them are completely outside cats - Mousers!
The other 3 are... well, let's just say, Spoiled!
They keep my girls completely happy. And in return, they have "the life".
They get fresh goat milk, "dressed up"(mostly against their will), wrapped in blankets, pushed in strollers,  constantly held, and lots of snuggling... basically, the life of royalty - for a cat!

Trains, Planes and Automobiles...

are NOT the preferred choices of travel around here.

Have you ever traveled by llama?

This is OUR sweet llama...
Dolly-Llama!

She is not the speediest thing but she does provide great rides and fun entertainment for the children.

Whoo Hoo!

Up and Coming Fashion Trends...

For Rednecks!

This is Caleb sporting his latest design of (redneck) boots.
(He thinks they are more like "mountain man" boots than redneck.
He could be right...hmmm?)

He started with his regular (very normal - what's wrong with normal!) rubber chore boots. Wrapped them with an elk hide. Then he wrapped the fur with baling wire so it would stay on the boot.
Seriously?... Seriously!!

Here is a close-up of his handy dandy work.
(I was surprised that he had not used duct tape)

What's an elk boot without blood? He kept them authentic with a hint of blood.

Place your orders now!
They are going fast!!

Continued Progress

It has been awhile since I have updated you on the barn progress.
So... here it goes!
(and if you are not interested in the barn just enjoy the scenery)
This view is from the hill coming down from Big Canyon Camp.
The steel frame is done and the siding is going up!
The dirt to the right of the barn is our future riding arena.

Closer picture of the siding. Our house is behind the barn.

The view of the front.
Lower level is Big Canyon office and the upper level will be an apt for Big Canyon staff.

The taller part of the garage is storage for the Big Canyon equipment - backhoe, dump truck, snow plow etc.
At the very far end (where it is shorter) will be the actual barn part for our animals.
We are so excited for it to be done so we can use it.

There you have it!

NOW...THIS was fun!

The Big Shootout

Grant (my bro) and his boys came up last weekend to do some target shooting.

Jacob and Weston
with the all powerful Red Ryder BB Guns

Aim...Fire!!

Grant helping Josh get in on some of the action

Caleb with his new purchase at Cabela's - Compact Survival .22

We all got to shoot "a round" with Grant's handgun

My Mr. Hot Shot

And ME!!
Yep, I gave it a try. So very fun.

I had a moment of deja vu taking me back to the 80's and feeling like one of "Charlies Angels".

We finished the Shootout with the 12 gauge. Everyone got 5 shells. Best out of 5 wins.
Caleb won!

Thanks Grant and boys for coming our way and sharing your artillery-fun with us.
